MB&F has introduced a bold new version of its HM8 Mark 2, now in a striking metallic purple. The release is limited to just 33 pieces and follows the annual tradition of colorful variations for this futuristic driver’s watch. Previous years featured British racing green and a glossy blue. This year, the vibrant purple nods to MB&F’s past use of the same eye-catching hue.
The HM8 Mark 2 continues its unique design with an automotive-inspired case crafted from grade 5 titanium. The case is topped and bottomed with CarbonMacrolon, a proprietary material combining a lightweight polymer and carbon nanotubes. This construction makes the panels eight times lighter than steel. The metallic purple tone comes from automotive-style pigments used to color the CarbonMacrolon.
Instead of a traditional display, the HM8 shows time through sapphire prisms that magnify the jumping hours and trailing minutes. This vertical layout is ideal for checking time while driving. Above the display, the exposed movement is visible through the complex sapphire crystal, offering a dramatic view of the mechanical detail inside.
The watch runs on a Girard-Perregaux base movement paired with MB&F’s in-house module. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. The anthracite-finished movement contrasts well with the cool silver-toned rotor. A unique crown system allows time adjustment via a three-quarter turn and press.
Priced at $88,000, the HM8 Mark 2 in Purple stands as a showcase of MB&F’s signature maximalist design approach. While it mainly introduces a new color, the vivid panels and intricate sapphire construction may be enough to sway collectors eager for something truly different on their wrist.
