12 June 2025 – Hong Kong — Hong Kong Customs has seized approximately 3,300 suspected counterfeit watches worth an estimated HK$3.3 million. The operation took place on May 24 at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Hong Kong Port.
The discovery followed a risk-based inspection, where customs officers stopped a lorry entering the port. A detailed search of the cargo compartment uncovered the suspected fake watches. The lorry driver, a 52-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.
Initial findings suggest the counterfeit goods were intended for overseas markets. Authorities believe the items were part of a smuggling attempt involving international transit.
The arrested driver has been released on bail while further investigations continue.
Hong Kong Customs emphasized its ongoing commitment to tackling counterfeit goods and smuggling. It noted that risk assessments and intelligence gathering remain key strategies in identifying such illegal activities.
According to the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, importing or exporting goods with forged trademarks is a serious offense. Upon conviction, violators may face a fine of up to HK$500,000 and a maximum prison sentence of five years.
