Tom Cruise Adds Rare Meteorite Rolex to His Timeless Collection

by Barbara Wilson

For over 40 years, Tom Cruise has been a fixture of global cinema—famed for playing iconic roles from a daring navy pilot to a high-stakes spy. But alongside his ever-evolving characters, one element has remained constant: his enduring appreciation for Rolex watches.

Cruise has consistently used the brand both on and off screen to convey status, character depth, and personal style. In Rain Man (1988), his character Charlie Babbitt wore a gold Rolex Day-Date—long known as a symbol of success. That same year, in Cocktail, a steel Rolex Air-King accompanied his role as an ambitious bartender.

Off camera, Cruise’s collection reflects similar taste. He’s often seen wearing a Rolex Datejust ref. 16200 in stainless steel. With its Roman numeral dial and classic design, the watch offers understated elegance. He’s also been spotted wearing the Sky-Dweller ref. 326934—a technically advanced dual-time-zone model designed for global travelers.

More recently, Cruise’s preferences have shifted toward bolder choices. Notable pieces in his collection include the Daytona ref. 116500LN with its black-and-white “panda” dial, and the GMT-Master II “Pepsi” in white gold, a nostalgic nod to Rolex history.

This week, while promoting the newest Mission: Impossible film, Cruise debuted one of his most striking watches yet: a white gold Rolex Day-Date 40 featuring a rare meteorite dial. The choice feels fitting for an actor often described as otherworldly—timeless, rare, and enduring.

The dial is made from the Gibeon meteorite, which fell in Namibia. Its surface features natural crystalline patterns called Widmanstätten structures, formed over millions of years as the meteor cooled in space. Each dial is unique, and Rolex uses this material only in a select few high-end models.

The Day-Date 40 is powered by Rolex’s caliber 3255 movement and finished with a fluted bezel and the signature President bracelet. It retails in the UK for £48,350—if you can find one. Due to limited production and high demand, these watches are incredibly difficult to acquire, with many collectors facing long waiting lists.

But for Cruise, whose star power is as consistent as his watch game, waiting likely isn’t part of the equation.
