Jude Law’s Secret Watch Choice Revealed as Icelandic Rarity

by Barbara Wilson

Jude Law is widely known for his acting talent and refined style, but his taste in watches remains one of the few things he keeps private. At last week’s GQ Men of the Year event, the 51-year-old actor appeared in a relaxed ensemble — a cornflower blue Givenchy suit jacket, navy silk scarf, white vest, and Brioni loafers — but watch enthusiasts noticed something missing: his wristwear.

“I could see him in a Jaeger-LeCoultre or maybe a small Cartier,” speculated Jackie Ho, co-founder of Hong Kong watch club Watch Ho & Co., who once met Law in New York. Yet despite the guesses, Law’s actual preference leans far more niche.

A photo from 2007 provides a rare glimpse into his watch collection. Taken at the Reykjavik workshop of Iceland’s JS Watch Co., it shows Law standing with founder Gilbert Gudjonsson and his son Sigurdur after purchasing a rare A2 Limited Edition timepiece. Only 50 were made.

“The A2 model features 200-meter water resistance, a black dial with white numerals, and a black strap,” explained Grimkell Sigurthorsson, co-owner and head designer at JS Watch. “A detail Jude particularly liked was the option to display the day of the week in either Icelandic or English — a subtle nod to Icelandic heritage.”

Law’s introduction to the brand happened by chance during a family trip. “He heard about us through a friend and walked into our workshop unannounced,” said Sigurthorsson. “He took time to learn about our watches and our story. We’re honored he chose us.”

Founded in 2005, JS Watch has carved a place in the high-end market by creating mechanical timepieces deeply rooted in Icelandic culture. Its 25-square-meter workshop in Reykjavik is run by a team of just four — spanning three generations of watchmakers. Despite its small scale, the brand has drawn fans like Tom Cruise, Ed Sheeran, Gordon Ramsay, and Kit Harington.

The company’s designs include unique materials and inspirations. Some watches incorporate volcanic ash into the dials, while others, like the Sif N.A.R.T., are engineered for Icelandic Coast Guard pilots and divers. Another collection, Vínland, honors the legacy of Nordic exploration.

“We focus on craftsmanship over mass production,” said Sigurthorsson. “We like to say we’re ‘probably the smallest watch manufacturer in the world.’”

As JS Watch nears its 20th anniversary in 2025, the brand is preparing to release several limited-edition models to celebrate the milestone. Each piece will reflect its signature blend of quality and Icelandic influence.

Whether Jude Law will return to the Reykjavik atelier to add another rare piece to his collection is unknown. But for now, fans can only hope he’ll one day let his understated wrist game speak a little louder.
