Timothée Chalamet is no stranger to luxury watches, especially those from Cartier. From red carpet events to film festivals, the actor has made the French brand a signature part of his style. But this week, he surprised fans by debuting one of 2025’s most anticipated watch releases — courtside at a basketball game.
Chalamet was spotted at the New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics playoff matchup, where the Knicks claimed victory. Celebrating from his courtside seat, the actor gave fans a clear look at the new Cartier Tank à Guichets, a rare and exclusive timepiece from the brand’s 2025 Privé collection.
The model he wore featured a yellow gold case paired with an olive green leather strap. While traditionally considered a dress watch, Chalamet broke style conventions by wearing it casually — with cargo shorts, a vintage Knicks shirt, and worn Timberland boots. There was no red carpet or formalwear, just a bold style statement at a basketball game.
Originally introduced in 1928, the Tank à Guichets is a standout in Cartier’s history. Known for its art deco design, the watch features a minimalist dial with a jumping hour display — a major shift from Cartier’s usual Roman numerals. The name “Guichet” means “window” or “ticket booth” in French, referencing the time display format.
Cartier has only released the Tank à Guichets in limited quantities over the decades. After a quiet period following the 1930s, it resurfaced briefly in 1996 and again this year in platinum, rose gold, and yellow gold versions. The 2025 model is available only through the brand’s high-end Privé line, with very few pieces made.
While this watch might have been designed for formal occasions, Chalamet is helping to redefine how and where such pieces can be worn. He joins a new wave of style icons — including Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and A$AP Rocky — who blend luxury watches with everyday outfits.
