Apple once considered making an Apple Watch compatible with Android phones to reach more users. But those plans were dropped, and Apple has kept its devices exclusive. That may soon change, as Chinese phone maker vivo plans to bridge the gap.
Vivo is teasing its upcoming foldable phone, the X Fold 5. The company revealed some features on Weibo, including a bright 4,500-nit display, high-frequency PWM dimming, and TUV Rheinland eye protection certification.
Most surprisingly, vivo confirmed the X Fold 5 will support Apple devices. It will be the first Android phone to work with the Apple Watch. Users can see incoming calls and texts on their watch, and sync health data to the vivo health app.
The phone will also connect to iCloud through its built-in file manager. Additionally, it can act as an extended screen for Mac computers, work with AirPods, and offer Mac remote control.
For iPhone users thinking about switching to Android, vivo’s X Fold 5 could be a compelling option. While there is no official release date, the phone is expected to launch later this month.
