Accutron is bringing back a legendary piece of watchmaking history with the launch of the Spaceview 314, a modern revival of the world’s first fully electric wristwatch. First introduced in the 1960s, the tuning fork-powered Accutron changed how watches kept time—and now, nearly 60 years later, it’s making a comeback with updated technology and design.
The Spaceview 314 will be available in stainless steel, titanium, and yellow gold. It will officially launch in late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025. While not a limited edition, production will be limited due to the extensive hand-assembly required for each piece. Pricing starts at $5,990 for the steel version and reaches up to $31,600 for solid gold.
The new watch closely resembles the original Accutron 214 but includes several technical upgrades. The exposed tuning fork movement—still finished in the signature green—is now cleaner and more refined. Components such as capacitors and wires have been neatly integrated, while decorative finishes like perlage and Geneva stripes now adorn the base plate and movement bridges.
One key improvement is the repositioning of the index wheel. It now sits on the dial side and has a larger diameter, which increases the number of teeth and makes the sweep of the seconds hand even smoother. The crown has also been moved from the caseback to the 4 o’clock position. Meanwhile, the battery hatch has been removed, replaced by a transparent caseback that showcases the decorated movement.
Functionally, the Spaceview 314 maintains its unique operating system. An electrical charge powers a tuning fork vibrating at 360 Hz, which regulates the timekeeping instead of a traditional balance wheel. The new version adds a stop-seconds function, and the tuning fork’s magnets have been upgraded to Samarium-Cobalt from the older Alnico material.
While the official accuracy rating hasn’t been released, the original 214 movement was known for being accurate to within two seconds per day—a remarkable feat at the time.
Accutron says this project took nearly a decade to develop. The careful approach reflects the brand’s respect for the original’s legacy and the technical challenge of reviving such a unique movement. The result is a modern timepiece that remains faithful to its roots while offering better precision, durability, and visual appeal.
The Spaceview 314 is likely to appeal to collectors, fans of vintage horology, and anyone drawn to the fascinating mechanics of electric watchmaking.
