A. Lange & Söhne Showcases Craft at UBS House of Craft in SF

by Barbara Wilson

A. Lange & Söhne, the revered German watchmaker, brought its commitment to craftsmanship to the forefront during a special UBS House of Craft event held at its San Francisco Salon. The evening featured an exclusive discussion, luxury hospitality, and a close look at some of the brand’s most celebrated timepieces.

Charles Langlois, Brand President of A. Lange & Söhne for the Americas, joined Hodinkee’s Mark Kauzlarich for the event, which was part of UBS’s global initiative to celebrate excellence in craftsmanship. UBS House of Craft creates intimate gatherings where guests can connect with master artisans from various fields.

Held at A. Lange & Söhne’s Union Square location — which opened in 2023 — the event welcomed guests with hors d’oeuvres, fine wines, and spirits. Attendees had the rare chance to view the brand’s newest models, many of which were recently introduced at Watches and Wonders Geneva.

Among the standout pieces was the new 1815, available in white or pink gold and powered by the brand’s new manually wound calibre L075. Also on display was the Odysseus Honeygold — the first in the sporty Odysseus line to feature both case and bracelet in the brand’s proprietary 18k Honeygold. Another highlight was the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold “Lumen,” a high-complication timepiece with a partially transparent luminous dial.

While the watches were the main attraction, the evening was elevated by the in-depth conversation between Langlois and Kauzlarich. Langlois offered insight into the Glashütte-based manufacturer’s deep-rooted dedication to quality and traditional techniques. He described the brand’s signature features, including hand-engraved components, German silver movement plates, and the two-stage assembly process that ensures perfection.

Despite producing only 5,000 watches annually, A. Lange & Söhne has maintained a reputation equal to that of Switzerland’s top brands. With a legacy dating back to the 19th century, the brand is known for blending historical craftsmanship with precise German engineering.

For many guests, the evening deepened their appreciation for the brand. Alongside copies of the latest Hodinkee magazine, attendees left with a greater understanding of A. Lange & Söhne’s place at the pinnacle of watchmaking.
