Timex’s Q collection offers a unique blend of vintage-inspired designs rather than a single consistent style. This year, the brand launches a new colorway for its 1975 Enigma reissue, following last year’s popular blue-dial model.
The Enigma pays tribute to the original 1975 watch by using a “mystery dial” effect. A dot painted on the center of the crystal matches the dial’s color and hides the posts of the hour, minute, and second hands. When viewed straight on under ideal lighting, the hands’ tips appear to float around the dial.
This new version features a black date window and a contrasting outer minute track. The dial remains simple, with plenty of empty space to preserve the floating illusion. The seconds hand includes a light blue lume-filled dot, which enhances the floating effect as it moves around the face.
A thick, domed acrylic crystal adds height to the watch case, measuring 12.7mm. Still, its compact 42mm lug-to-lug size ensures it fits comfortably on most wrists. Buyers can choose from several straps, including steel, vegan leather, or fabric, with the leather model priced at $209.
While some might argue the Enigma’s mystery dial is less impressive compared to other watches with transparent discs, it remains a well-balanced and stylish piece. Its design stays true to its 1970s space-age roots while offering a unique look at an affordable quartz watch price.
