MLADÁ BOLESLAV, Czech Republic – May 7, 2025 — To celebrate its 130th anniversary, Škoda Auto has unveiled a limited edition of 130 Laurin & Klement wristwatches. Crafted in collaboration with Czech watchmaker Prokop & Brož, these exclusive timepieces are inspired by the historic Laurin & Klement BSC sports car from 1908.
The wristwatch series pays tribute to both automotive and watchmaking craftsmanship. It will be available in select European markets starting in September 2025.
Prokop & Brož, a boutique Czech watchmaker founded in 2012, is known for creating custom mechanical watches. “The production of mechanical wristwatches is a prestigious sign of a nation’s technological advancement,” said Jan Prokop, Managing Director of Prokop & Brož. “The Czech Republic is among the few countries that have mastered this craft.”
Designers took inspiration from the Laurin & Klement BSC, one of the rarest exhibits in the Škoda Museum. This early sports car featured an in-line engine and various body styles, reflecting cutting-edge automotive design of its time. Several elements of the watch are drawn from the car’s dashboard clock, including the off-centre second hand positioned just below 12 o’clock.
The main hands are modeled after traditional pocket watches, tempered to a dark blue using classic methods. The dial is crafted using Prokop & Brož’s unique Brosmalt technique, with a pearl white pigment matching the car’s original body color. Each watch dial is handmade and individually numbered.
The crown features a laser-engraved Laurin & Klement emblem, mirroring the one found on the BSC’s radiator. Two editions will be offered: a prestige version of 30 watches made from 18K gold, and a standard edition of 100 made from stainless steel. The leather strap color is matched to the original leather used on the car’s canvas roof.
The Laurin & Klement BSC has been part of the Škoda Museum since 2016. The vehicle underwent a full two-year restoration using original blueprints and components. Remarkably, the original engine—still bearing its 1908 serial number—remains in place.
The BS series holds a key place in Škoda’s early history. It marked a shift from the company’s first models by introducing an in-line engine layout and greater variety in body design, offering more options to customers of the time.
