Though he hasn’t secured a Formula 1 victory this season, Charles Leclerc is still winning—at least in the world of luxury watches.
The Ferrari driver has partnered with Richard Mille to release the RM72-01 “Charles Leclerc” edition, a new take on the brand’s automatic flyback chronograph. Although Leclerc has been wearing the watch for several weeks, its launch was relatively low-key, according to Hodinkee.
The RM72-01 features a white-quartz TPT case with red strips, a nod to Leclerc’s hometown of Monaco and its flag. These red and white hues extend across the skeletonized chronograph display, which prioritizes racing-inspired counters over traditional hour markers. The black crown mirrors the twisting motion of an F1 car’s tire during acceleration. Additionally, the date window is framed with red and white, and the 39 mm case is water-resistant up to 100 feet (30 meters).
Powering the watch is the caliber CRMC-1. It offers 60-minute and 24-hour counters, running seconds, and a 50-hour power reserve. The flyback chronograph uses a column-wheel control system and a double tilting pinion clutch system, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The timepiece also includes a platinum rotor with ceramic bearings.
Despite the Formula 1 watch trend, the RM72-01 initially went under the radar, with Leclerc wearing it at the Bahrain Grand Prix without much attention. However, now that the watch is officially revealed, fans eager to get their hands on it will need to act quickly.
Only 150 pieces of the RM72-01 will be available, priced at $300,000. Some watches are already being delivered to customers, and given its exclusivity, they are expected to sell out fast.
