Mark Zuckerberg turned heads this week, not just for his policy announcement, but for the timepiece on his wrist. In a video declaring the end of third-party fact-checkers on Facebook and Instagram, the Meta CEO wore a Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1 watch, valued at nearly $900,000.
The Hand Made 1 is among the rarest and most intricate watches in the world. Only two or three are crafted each year due to the intense 6,000-hour process required to build one. Before taxes, the watch sells for $895,500. In 2025, Greubel Forsey plans to produce only one due to its time-consuming production.
“It’s a pleasure to see someone who shaped the digital age appreciate traditional craftsmanship,” said Michel Nydegger, CEO of Greubel Forsey.
Experts call the watch “wearable art.” With 281 parts and a tourbillon for precise timekeeping, the Swiss-made piece is seen as the pinnacle of fine watchmaking. “The Hand Made 1 is the epitome of horology,” said Rustin Yasavolian, CEO of Masina Diamonds.
Zuckerberg, worth an estimated $218 billion, has become known for collecting rare watches. Still, fashion consultant Reginald Ferguson said the timing of flaunting such a luxury item—during a controversial policy shift—was “tone deaf.”
“The watch may not scream wealth, but it definitely doesn’t help the optics,” Ferguson added.
Meta has not commented on the matter. Yet Zuckerberg’s growing presence in the luxury watch world continues to attract attention from both horology experts and the public.
