White dials are making a strong showing in the watch world this year, and Nomos Glashütte has joined the trend with a new version of its Ahoi neomatik 38 date. This latest model features a clean metallic white dial with subtle pops of color, adding a fresh look to a line known for its modern German design.
While the Ahoi has a name and 200-meter water resistance that hint at diving capabilities, it doesn’t resemble a traditional dive watch. Its long, slender lugs and minimalist, bezel-free case design are more in line with Nomos’ Tangente model. However, the larger proportions and crown guards signal a more rugged intention than the typical dress watch.
The stainless steel case measures 38.5mm wide and 9.9mm tall, with a screw-down crown ensuring its 200-meter depth rating. Other white-dial versions exist in the smaller 36mm Ahoi neomatik line, including a bright “siren white” model and one with a silver-white dial. This new version, though, introduces a different aesthetic with distinct color accents.
The silver-plated white dial is softly diffused and accented by a deep red small seconds hand placed above the six o’clock marker. The “neomatik” label beneath the Nomos logo is printed in a metallic gold, while the hour and minute hands feature pale blue Super-LumiNova, offering nighttime visibility.
One standout feature is the large date window at three o’clock, replacing the usual numeral marker. Its clear typography makes it easy to read, and the Nomos quick-change date system allows users to move the date forward or backward — a rare and handy function.
On the back, a sapphire display case reveals the DUW 6101 automatic movement. Developed in-house, the movement fits the case well and offers a 42-hour power reserve, a 21,600 vph beat rate, and the Nomos Swing System escapement. At only 3.6mm thick, this caliber is impressively slim and finely finished for its price.
Despite its dimensions, the Ahoi Date wears larger on the wrist. The short lugs don’t curve tightly to the wrist, and the watch’s broad dial makes it appear closer to 40mm. For those who prefer a smaller fit, Nomos continues to offer the 36mm version without a date window.
Originally launched with the vibrant Sky and Sand models, the Ahoi line now embraces a more classic Nomos aesthetic with this white dial. Priced at $4,460, it offers a unique, German alternative to Swiss dive watches in the same range. For those who appreciate Bauhaus design and want something stylish yet capable in the water, the new Ahoi makes a compelling case.
