Blancpain Launches 38mm Fifty Fathoms Divers in Steel, Titanium, and Gold

by Barbara Wilson

Blancpain has expanded its Fifty Fathoms collection with a full range of 38mm divers available in stainless steel, grade 23 titanium, and 18k red gold. The new line features 14 references, with dial options limited to black or blue sunburst.

The 38mm Fifty Fathoms join the existing 42mm and 45mm models, offering a smaller size for those seeking a vintage or more modest wrist presence. Blancpain redesigned the proportions rather than simply shrinking the case, reducing thickness to 12mm from 14.2mm and lug width to 19mm from 21.5mm compared to the 42mm version. The watch includes a unidirectional 120-click sapphire dive bezel matched to the dial color, and the brand’s logo is engraved on the nine o’clock case side.

The dial features a subtle sunburst finish and a color-matched date window at 4:30. The caseback reveals the caliber 1150 automatic movement, which offers a 100-hour power reserve and magnetic resistance thanks to a silicon hairspring.

Prices vary depending on strap or bracelet choice. The steel model ranges from $16,700 on a strap with pin buckle to $19,500 on a bracelet. Titanium versions cost between $17,900 and $21,100. The red gold editions come only with straps, priced at $30,600 with a pin buckle and $34,000 with a deployant clasp. None of these watches are limited editions; they will be a permanent part of Blancpain’s lineup.

Collectors have long sought smaller Fifty Fathoms models, as the brand mostly offered a 45mm case that many found large. Previous limited editions at 40.3mm sold out quickly, highlighting demand for smaller sizes. Blancpain began responding with the 42mm model in 2024 and now with this full 38mm range.

This move reflects a broader trend in the watch market toward smaller case sizes. Brands are listening to customer demands and shifting from simply releasing new models to offering designs that better fit wearer preferences.

Blancpain President and CEO Marc A. Hayek said, “With the addition of new models, we’re responding to a clear demand while reaffirming that this collection was always meant for all wrists.”

For buyers considering a Fifty Fathoms, the 38mm option offers a more comfortable, vintage-inspired fit without compromising the classic dive watch features, making it a compelling choice.
