Richard Mille and Ferrari Unveil RM 43-01 Tourbillon Chronograph

by Barbara Wilson

Richard Mille has introduced its latest collaboration with Ferrari—the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph. This marks the second major timepiece to come from the partnership, which began in 2021. It follows the record-breaking RM UP-01, once the world’s thinnest watch at just 1.75 mm.

Unlike its ultra-flat predecessor, the RM 43-01 returns to Richard Mille’s classic design language. It features a bold, curved tonneau case made from lightweight, high-tech materials, housing a new high-performance movement designed over three years.

This model is the fifth split-seconds tourbillon chronograph from the brand, following the RM 008 that debuted in 2003. The RM 43-01 stands out as the first asymmetric design in the series and incorporates visual cues inspired by Ferrari’s engineering—like the taillights of the SF90 or the exhaust of the new F80 supercar.

At the heart of the watch is the RM 43-01 caliber, composed of 514 components set in a titanium baseplate. The movement delivers multiple complications, blending high watchmaking with motorsport functionality. Key features include a 30-minute totalizer at 9 o’clock and a unique 60-second tourbillon at 5 o’clock. The latter is fitted with a free-sprung balance beating at 3 Hz, using a five-arm cage to mark 12-second intervals.

The dial is skeletonized, creating a dynamic look that reflects the brand’s racing DNA, though it slightly reduces legibility. A decorative fin near the tourbillon, inspired by the tail of the Ferrari 499P race car, displays Ferrari’s iconic prancing horse emblem.

Two limited editions of the RM 43-01 will be available, each restricted to 75 pieces. One features a titanium case with red and gold accents; the other uses Carbon TPT—a material made of hundreds of carbon-fiber layers—with yellow detailing. While both editions share the same technical foundation, their design highlights offer distinct personalities.

The RM 43-01 is a continuation of Richard Mille’s tradition of merging technical mastery with motorsport aesthetics, further cementing its creative alliance with Ferrari.
